Stem cell therapy for Lung Disease in Bangkok Thailand
For the first time researchers have found a type of stem cell that
could prove crucial in reducing injury and scarring in the lung
and even generate new lung cells. An Australian study recent revealed
that human cells isolated from the placenta could potentially heal
lung injuries in patients.
The study says that the investigation could provide hope for patients
suffering from lung damage.
‘Worldwide one in four are affected by serious lung conditions.
Globally lung diseases cause many deaths and disabilities, with
most lung conditions responding poorly to traditional medicines.
Cellular therapies such as stem cell therapy, may form a vital part
of future life-saving treatments.'
The research is published in the June issue of the American Journal
of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.‘This study makes
a very significant contribution to the potential repair of lung
injury. It adopts a new approach to cell therapy utilising a type
of cell that is available in large numbers and is particularly effective
in lung repair.'
Stem cells are in people of all ages. Stem cells are the repairmen
of the body. The most common is known as hematopoietic stem cells
(HSC-CD 34+). The type of adult stem cell that is most often seen
in research as being associated with tissue repair is a mesenchymal
stem cell (MSC). These cells usually travel to the injured areas
via the blood stream. If the injured area has a poor blood supply,
this is called an area of hypoxia or low oxygen content. Areas of
hypoxia include the joints, meniscus tissue, rotator cuff and other
tendon injuries. These are areas that typically do not heal on their
own. The body is not able to get enough of the repair cells to these
injured areas. Since there is a poor blood supply in this area,
the body has trouble sensing an injury is present.
In Bangkok there are now a lot of highly specialized and qualified
medical centers and hospitals that routinely perform stell cell
treatments. Stem cell treatment is one of the more promising medical
advances in the history of medicine. On this site we will offer
various information of the types of conditions and ailments that
stell cell therapy can benefit the patient.
Stem cells in the lungs- Facts
Our lungs work hard. In an average lifetime, human lungs take 20-40
million breaths and experience a daily airflow of between 7000 and
10,000 litres. Human lungs are made up of two distinct regions:
1. The conducting airway tubes, including the trachea, bronchi,
and bronchioles.
2. The gas exchange regions, or alveolar spaces.
Scientists have discovered that these regions each contain unique
types of stem cells and progenitori cells. In normal lungs, progenitor
cells are present in abundance throughout each region. These cells
divide to replace old or damaged lung cells, which keeps the lung
healthy. The progenitor cells include tracheal basal cells, bronchiolar
Clara cells, and alveolar type 2 cells.
Stem cells are much rarer than progenitors, but they are found
in both embryonic and adult lungs. They contribute to initial lung
development and help repair and regenerate the lung throughout life.
Problems with stem cells appear to contribute to lung diseases.
The stem cells are found in unique anatomical locations within the
lung, including the branch points of airway tubes and the junctions
between the conducting airway and gas exchange regions.
To sum things up, stem cell therapy shows great promise for those
with lung disease looking to come to Bangkok Thailand.
